I had another look at the P9X79-DLX Win10 chipset drivers that ASUS is offering on it's support page and now noticed that the 3 chipset driver downloads offered (dated 2014, 2015 and 2015) are not quite all the same thing. So I downloaded all 3 and installed them beginning with the oldest. Only the second one required a restart and the third
